NSCDC Rescues Two 13-Year-Old Girls in Zamfara, Arrests Suspected Trafficker
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reportedly rescued two 13-year-old girls in Gusau, Zamfara State, and arrested a 25-year-old man suspected of human trafficking.
According to a report published by Channels Television on October 17, 2026, the suspect, identified as Bala Abubakar, was arrested in the Lalan area of Gusau on Thursday, October 15, at approximately 8:30 p.m.
How the Arrest Happened
The NSCDC Zamfara State Command said the suspect was allegedly transporting the two girls from Shinkafi Local Government Area when officers apprehended him.
Preliminary investigations reportedly indicated that the girls were from Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The authorities further alleged that the girls were intended to be handed over to two women in Suleja, Niger State. The circumstances surrounding the alleged arrangement remain subject to investigation.
The allegations have not been established in court, and the suspect should be presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
NAPTIP to Investigate the Case
The State Commandant of the NSCDC in Zamfara, Sani Mustapha, directed that the case be transferred to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and appropriate action.
NAPTIP is responsible for addressing human trafficking and related offences in Nigeria.
The transfer is expected to allow the relevant authorities to investigate the allegations, establish the circumstances of the case and determine whether further legal action is warranted.
Child Trafficking Remains a Serious Concern
Cases involving the alleged movement of children for exploitation highlight the importance of protecting vulnerable minors and reporting suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
Parents, guardians and community members are encouraged to verify arrangements involving children's travel, employment or relocation, particularly when third parties are involved.
Anyone who suspects human trafficking can report the matter to law enforcement or NAPTIP through its official reporting channels.
